John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (Liverpool, England, October 9, 1940 - New York, USA, December 8, 1980) was a musician and composer who became famous worldwide as one of the founding members of The Beatles and , along with Paul McCartney, formed one of the most successful songwriting partnerships of the twentieth century.Born and raised in Liverpool, where he became familiar with the skiffle craze as a teenager, first band, The Quarrymen, which later became The Beatles in 1960. As the group began to disintegrate until its dissolution at the end of that decade, Lennon launched a solo career, which would be marked by critically acclaimed albums, including John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, and iconic songs like "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine."
Showed a rebellious nature and a biting wit in music, film, books and drawings, and in press conferences and interviews. He was controversial through his actions by peace activists, along with his wife Yoko Ono. In 1971, he moved to New York, where opposition to the Vietnam War led to numerous attempts by the government of Richard Nixon to deport the country, while his songs were adopted as anthems for the movement against the war. After his self-imposed "retirement" of the music industry in 1975 to devote time to his family, Lennon reemerged in 1980 with a comeback album, Double Fantasy, but was killed three weeks after its release.In the U.S., sales of Lennon's solo, approaching 14 million units, 1 and either as a performer, author, or co-author, is responsible for 27 number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100.nota 1 In 2002, a BBC survey on the "100 Greatest British ', was placed in the eighth, and in 2008, was described by Rolling Stone magazine as the fifth best singer of all time. After his death was included in both the Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame Rock in 1994.
